Wheat...West coast cash wheat bids trended steady to higher as the
week got underway, with basis levels holding in line with postings from
late last week. Weaker than average spot basis levels for white wheat
have triggered grower interest in deferred hedge-to-arrive contracting.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat harvest is wrapping up for the Pacific
Northwest, with quality reports showing slightly higher protein levels
and better falling numbers. Spring wheat harvest for both Washington
and Idaho is at the two-thirds completion mark.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively good
week of wheat movement off U.S. ports, coming in at 15.6 million bushels
to put year-to-date loadings at 159 million and 26 million behind a year
ago. White wheat was the top mover with 9.3 million bushels followed by
hard red spring with 2.9 million and hard red winter with 2.3 million.
West coast exporters shipped 12.6 million bushels of wheat, going mostly
to South Korea, the Philippines and Japan, along with nearly 15 million
bushels of corn.
