   Wheat...West coast cash wheat markets were reflective of the sideways
trend of the futures complex over the past week, with bids holding in-line
with a week ago. Basis levels were steady for all three classes of wheat,
and exporter bid structure showed carries have narrowed.
   Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a marked decline in U.S.
wheat shipments last week, as exporters begin a seasonal shift toward the
movement of row crops. Wheat loadings of 12.3 million bushels puts year-
to-date shipments at 221 million bushels and 31% below a year ago. Hard
red spring moved 4.8 million bushels, white wheat 2.5 million and hard
red winter less than a million bushels. West coast exporters shipped 6.9
million bushels, mostly to the Philippines and Vietnam, along with nearly
28 million bushels of corn.
   Crop Progress...Pacific Northwest winter wheat plantings made good
progress last week, with Washington leading the country at 55% planted,
which is slightly ahead of average. Idaho and Oregon are right on the
average pace with 22% and 13% planted, respectively.
