Wheat...West coast cash wheat markets posted an uptick coming out of
the long weekend, riding the coattails of the rebound across the futures
complex. Nearby basis levels respected the gain in futures with protein
wheats holding steady on basis and spot basis for white wheat was up 20
cents from a week ago.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed wheat movement off U.S.
ports slipped to 12.6 million bushels last week, putting the year-to-date
total at 188 million, which is 27% behind a year ago. Hard red winter was
the top mover with 2.8 million bushels, followed by soft white wheat with
2.5 million and hard red spring at 2.1 million. West coast exporters saw
a lift of nearly 8 million bushels of wheat, going mostly to Indonesia and
Vietnam, along with shipping 20 million bushels of corn.
Crop Progress...With spring wheat harvest virtually complete for the
Pacific Northwest, grower focus has shifted to winter wheat plantings and
with the exception of Washington is on track with the average pace. Idaho
and Oregon are 6% and 3% planted, respectively, while Washington lags the
average pace by more than 10% at 16% planted.
